BeerCrunchers is a project from the mind of
Doug Veliky.
Doug is a data-driven CPA with a passion for photography and social media. Professionally, he worked in public and forensic accounting before spending eight years building the Internal Audit department at Reyes Holdings, parent of the largest beer distributor network in the country. His passion for the beer industry lead to the creation of his Instagram & TikTok accounts @beeraficionado and Beer Crunchers.
In 2016, Doug was recruited to join Chicago’s Revolution Brewing, the largest independently owned craft brewery in Illinois and 39th largest in the country, as CFO. Over the years, Doug used his passion for the marketing side of the business to fill gaps at the company for interim periods, eventually leading to his role today as the company’s Chief Strategy Officer overseeing Finance, Marketing, and the company’s strategic direction.
Doug uses Beer Crunchers today as a means to write about, share knowledge & experience, and start conversations around the beer industry while keeping things loose and fun. Opinions are his own, but will at times connect to on-going research and observations that stem from his role at Revolution.

In the Spring of 2019, Doug and his wife Alma set out to fundraise in support of Lurie Children’s Hospital. Their son had a successful lobectomy there in 2016 at 7 months of age. In conjunction with renovations taking place on the 5th floor of the hospital where MRIs are administered, expanding from three machines to four, the hospital hoped to turn this floor into a warm nature scene using artwork covering the walls, floors, and machines themselves.
We hope the colorful and friendly designs are what kids will see first. These pleasant distractions engage kids and help put them at ease, so they are able to complete necessary diagnostic tests. Transforming these environments can also decrease the need for sedation and ultimately leave patients with a more positive experience. They will see the calming, friendly images first, and the MRI machine second.
The total project required $40,000 and the couple originally committed to $10,000 offering their photography skills as the vehicle. Melani Domingues, owner of the Green Lady craft beer bar in Lakeview, reached out and said “let’s double it”. She invited Doug and Alma to hold an event at the bar, which ended up taking place on May 31, 2019. Thanks to her, a lot of generous breweries, friends, and attendees, “Pours for Lurie” raised over $15,000 that night. In late November, Doug began auctioning off rare bottles of beer and mead on his Instagram account, which lead to many generous offers and completion of the $40,000 goal on January 5, 2020.
